Operating system updates for Caretta are deployed over-the-air (OTA). The updates are fully automatic, once the update process was approved by the user.
The updating process is completely safe and preserves all user data. But just like with any update on any device, we recommend backing up the most precious data on Caretta e.g. to a cloud service such as the Google Drive as a matter of general pre-caution.
It is not recommended to apply operating system update when SD card is used and configured for internal storage expansion. SD card configured for file sharing between devices poses no risk.
It is recommended to download operating system updates when Caretta is connected to a high speed WiFi - a file of approximately 2GB will be downloaded.
Once the update process starts, you can keep using Caretta - everything runs on the background automatically. Once the update is ready for installation, you will be invited to restart Caretta. You can either restart Caretta via the update dialog or simply just restart Caretta as usual by using power button long press and selecting the option "Restart" in the pop-up on-screen power menu.
If you want to check the update progress, click again the Settings item "Additional operating system updates".
The operating system update engine is located in system Settings - System - Additional system updates (click on this very menu item - it is not a heading, but the actual button to click):

IMPORTANT: firmware updates associated with charging through the Cradle, CAN bus and RS485 connectivity are not part of operating system updates. These firmware updates are deployed via NGH. Applying firmware updates is possibly more important for ensuring the correct hardware functionality than installing operating system updates . Please check this support article for details about firmware updates: Firmware updates
Starting from OS Build id 20260616 you will be notified on subsequenty operating system updates by a system notification, which also includes link to our webpage with more details about the update (Learn more option):
