BMW Wonderwheel on Caretta

To use the BMW Multi-Controller (Wonderwheel) with the Carpe Iter Caretta navigation device, the feature must be manually enabled in your settings.

Compatibility

• Supported Models: Generally all BMW GS models MY 2013 and newer (motorcycles compatible with BMW Navigator IV and newer). Compatibility is not restricted to GS models, provided the motorcycle firmware supports the Navigation option.
• Hardware: The motorcycle must be equipped with the BMW Multi-Controller (Wonderwheel).
• Navigation Software Option: The Navigation software preparation must be active on your motorcycle. Most new BMW GS Adventure models equipped with a TFT dashboard, BMW Navigator preparation, or ConnectedRide Cradle have this enabled from the factory.

Note: For non-GS or standard models, consult your local BMW dealership with your VIN to confirm or activate the factory Navigation preparation software.

Prerequisites

• The Caretta Cradle must be connected to the motorcycle using an official Carpe Iter BMW adapter cable (Adaptor cables for Caretta).
• The adapter cable must be plugged into the designated BMW Navigator socket (consult your owner's manual or BMW dealer).
  • BMW R1250GS / GSA: Socket is located behind the right-side inner fairing.
  • BMW F900GS / GSA & R1300GS / GSA: Socket is located under the front mask.

Enabling the Multi-Controller

1. Update Firmware: Open NGH, navigate to Settings > Caretta Setup, scroll to the bottom, and tap Check for update. Install any available updates (minimum required firmware version is 0.6).

   

2. Enable Setting: In the Caretta Setup tab, toggle on BMW Multicontroller (the indicator turns green when active).

   

3. Initialization: Within 30 seconds of placing Caretta into the cradle (or immediately if already docked during update/configuration):

   • Bikes with TFT Dashboard: The TFT display will show that NAV mode is available. Press the NAV button on your handlebar switchgear to route Multi-Controller inputs to Caretta.
   • Bikes without TFT Dashboard: Multi-Controller inputs are recognized automatically without additional action.
   • Troubleshooting: If the motorcycle does not detect Caretta or the Wonderwheel does not respond, remove Caretta from the cradle and re-insert it while the motorcycle ignition is set to ON.
