BMW Wonderwheel on Caretta

Modified on Thu, 9 Apr at 2:08 PM

Currently the BMW Multicontroller (aka Wondersheel) fuctionality on the Carpe Iter Caretta navigation device requires the user to manually enable the function.

Compatibility check:

  • Generally all BMW GS models MY 2013 and newer are supported (motorcycles compatible with BMW Navigator IV and newer).
  • The Wonderwheel is present on the bike:-)
  • All new BMW models with TFT dashboard should have the Navigation software option enabled by default from factory. For older models please check your VIN at your local BMW dealership

Prerequisites:

  • the Caretta Cradle is connected to the BMW Motorcycle via one of the Carpe Iter adapter cables for BMW (Adaptor cables for Caretta).
  • the Adaptor cable is mated with the socket for BMW Navigator (consult the owner's manual for your bike or your local BMW dealer. Some BMW models have more than one socket that can mate with the same connector type, but only one is for the BMW Navigator). For BMW R1250GS/GSA, the socket is located in the inner fairing on the right side. For BMW F900GS/GSA and 1300GS/GSA, the socket is under the mask.

How to enable the function:

  1. Open NGH, go to Settings - Caretta Setup - scroll to the bottom of the screen and "Check for update". Install firmware update, if available. Minimum required firmware version is 0.6.

  2. Scroll up in the Caretta Setup tab and enable BMW Multicontroller (when the mark is green, the function is enabled)

  3. Within 30 seconds after Caretta is placed in the Cradle (or if Caretta was already in Cradle while updating firmware and enabling the feature):
    1. bike with TFT dashboard will indicate availability of the "Nav" mode. The Nav mode must be enabled by pressing the Nav button on the stock switchgear for the motorcycle to pass signals from the Multicontroller to Caretta.
    2. non-TFT bikes do not require any additional action.
    3. if the bike does not recognize Caretta (does not enable Nav mode or the Wonderwheel appears to have no function on Caretta), remove Caretta from the Cradle and re-insert it with ignition "ON".
