- What should I avoid doing - hardware?
The basic rule is not to do anything with the CI Pad that you wouldn't do with your smartphone (except for mounting the CI Pad on your bike). While it is a rugged device, excessive abuse could eventually lead to failure. Remember, it is not carved from a solid block of steel; it is an electronic device.
Avoid connecting the CI Pad to a power source that is not connected to its own power supply.
This can cause reverse current, which slowly drains the CI Pad's battery. This applies to any power source, not just our motorcycle power source. For example, if you leave the CI Pad connected to a USB wall charger that is unplugged from the wall socket, or if it is connected to a laptop that shuts down, the laptop will draw power from the CI Pad, potentially damaging the battery quickly—even overnight with the CI Pad fully charged.Do not use USB quick chargers.
There is a risk of burning the fuse on the USB port, which will result in the loss of all USB functionality (charging and data transfer). If your CI Pad charges on the bike but not through USB, a burned fuse is likely the cause.Avoid exposing the CI Pad to direct sunlight when your bike is stationary. When you park your bike, either take the CI Pad with you or cover it (e.g., with your gloves). Without airflow to cool it down, prolonged exposure to the sun can heat the CI Pad enough to damage the battery or electronics. Long-term exposure to sunlight can also shorten the LCD's lifespan and may lead to LCD bleaching (loss of color or unwanted tint).
Do not expose the CI Pad to sub-zero temperatures, especially with a depleted battery.
A depleted battery in cold conditions may fail. However, if the CI Pad is connected to charging while riding in sub-zero temperatures, it should not be a problem, as the LCD and charging will warm up the device. Please refer to the user manual for additional details and limitations.
