WiFi Connection Troubleshooting (Android 11 & 13)

If you experience unstable or failing Wi-Fi connectivity, first perform a network reset via Android settings:

Resolving Router & Connection Drop Issues

If you encounter frequent disconnections—particularly on dual-band or IPv6 routers—apply the following configuration steps in order:

1. Disable DHCPv6 on your router.
2. Separate Wi-Fi bands: Split 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks into distinct SSIDs and connect your device specifically to the 2.4 GHz network.
3. Disable IPv6: Turn off IPv6 protocols on your local network/router.
4. Set Device MAC in Advanced Wi-Fi Settings:
   • Tap the gear icon next to your Wi-Fi network.
   • Navigate to Advanced > Privacy.
   • Change the setting from Use randomized MAC to Use device MAC.
5. Select a fixed Wi-Fi channel: Routers often default to high, unstable auto-channels.
   • For 2.4 GHz, select channel 1, 6, or 11.
   • For 5 GHz, select channel 36, 40, 44, or 48.
6. Disable MAC filtering on the router.
7. Check with router support: If issues persist, contact your router manufacturer or ISP for firmware updates.

Technical Background: Android does not natively support DHCPv6 protocols. Wi-Fi instability on dual-band and IPv6 routers is a known Android core limitation that can cause frequent handshake drops when both bands share an SSID or when IPv6 configuration is active.

Additional Recommended Router Adjustments

If connectivity interruptions persist, adjust the following network settings:

• Disable the DHCP IPv6 server on the router.
• Disable DNSv6 advertisement.
• Set Wi-Fi security protocol explicitly to WPA2-PSK (AES) instead of mixed WPA2/WPA3.
• Disable PMF (Protected Management Frames).
