Why Does My CI Pad Stop Charging While Riding?
If your CI Pad repeatedly cuts out or cycles charging mid-ride while connected to a Carpe Iter Black power source, the issue is typically related to system voltage fluctuation in your motorcycle's electrical circuit.
Probable Causes
- Insufficient Alternator Output: The motorcycle's charging system may not provide stable power under load, particularly at idle.
- Excessive Accessory Load: Running multiple high-draw electrical accessories simultaneously can pull the system voltage below the required threshold.
Technical Note: The Carpe Iter Black power source includes an integrated smart cutoff that only activates when system voltage reaches approximately 13.0V or higher. If your alternator struggles under load, the initial current draw from charging the CI Pad can cause the voltage to dip momentarily below 13.0V. This causes the power source to disconnect, cutting power until the voltage recovers—resulting in an endless connect/disconnect cycle.
Troubleshooting & Solutions
- Check at Higher Engine RPM: Motorcycle charging systems generate significantly less power at idle. Raising the engine RPM increases alternator output, which often stabilizes voltage above 13.0V and maintains uninterrupted charging.
- Inspect Electrical & Charging System: If the issue persists at cruising RPMs, inspect the health of your motorcycle's battery, regulator/rectifier, and stator/alternator.
