Charging on the bike cuts out

Why does my CI Pad stop charging while riding?

If your CI Pad’s charging cuts out mid-ride and you’re using a Black power source, the issue might be related to your motorcycle’s alternator. This can happen for two reasons:

  1. Weak Alternator: Your alternator may not be able to provide consistent power.
  2. Too Many Powered Accessories: Having multiple accessories connected at the same time can cause the voltage to drop below the required threshold.

The Black power source only activates when the battery voltage is around 13V or higher. If your alternator is struggling, the battery voltage can fluctuate. This means it may briefly drop below 13V once the CI Pad starts charging, causing the power source to turn off, which interrupts the charging. As a result, the charging cycle will repeatedly start and stop.

Solution:

  • Increase Engine RPM: Raising the engine’s rpm should stabilize the voltage and maintain charging.
  • Check Your Alternator: If the problem persists, it may indicate that your alternator is not functioning properly and might need replacement.

The video  demonstrates this issue: you can see the power source turning on (green light in the bottom right), followed by the CI Pad beginning to charge.
Once the default charging icon disappears and the battery percentage shows up, the power source turns off momentarily, causing the CI Pad to turn off, and then the cycle repeats.
