Update from Android 9 to Android 11

Modified on Thu, 10 Sep at 8:49 AM

Important Warnings & Prerequisites

WARNING – Complete Data Loss: All data stored on the CI Pad will be erased during the update process. Back up all essential files to a computer or cloud storage prior to updating.

WARNING – SD Card Removal & Formatting: If your SD card is configured as internal storage expansion, back up its data immediately. You must unmount the SD card in Android settings before physically removing it from the CI Pad. The SD card must be removed prior to running the update.

Note: Deviating from these instructions (such as failing to unmount/remove the SD card) carries a risk of bricking the device, requiring it to be returned to Carpe Iter for service.

Installation Instructions

  1. Open the Carpe Manager app (ensure it is updated to the latest version).
  2. Navigate to the App Shelf.
  3. Locate and install the Carpe Iter Reflasher app.
  4. Launch the Reflasher app and follow all on-screen instructions carefully.

Troubleshooting & Settings

  • Superuser Privileges (Magisk): If the prompt to grant Superuser privileges does not appear automatically, open the Magisk app manually, navigate to the Superuser tab (at the bottom), and toggle Carpe Reflasher to enabled (blue).
  • Hidden Magisk App: If Magisk is not visible in your app drawer on the stock launcher (Lawnchair), long-press the home screen, select Home settings > App Drawer > Hidden apps, and uncheck Magisk.
  • Download Timeouts: If a download timeout occurs, high server traffic may be present. Please wait and retry after a short period.
  • Preventing Sleep & Orientation Breaks: Screen rotation or display sleep can interrupt download and preparation steps. In Carpe Manager, lock screen orientation and enable Screen Always On under screen options.
  • Support & Forum: If you experience issues, consult the dedicated Android 11 thread on the Carpe Iter Community Forum. Please check existing forum solutions before creating a support ticket.

What’s New in Android 11

Key updates and changes from Android 9 to Android 11 include:

  • Updated WebView: Resolves compatibility and rendering issues with navigation apps like Kurviger.
  • Unrooted Environment: Native unrooted OS prevents compatibility conflicts (e.g., Rally Roadbooks by Terrapiata).
  • Optimized Charging Algorithms: Autostart features available with the latest revision.
  • Battery Indicator Fix: Removed legacy indicator override to prevent battery percentage display glitches.
  • GNSS / GPS Improvements: Significantly enhanced satellite reception, fix speed, and tracking accuracy.
  • Google Services: Fixed account sync, contacts synchronization, and background service stability.
  • Drive Mode Dashboard (DMD): DMD is no longer pre-installed. DMD licenses must be acquired directly from the DMD developer.
