  1. Quick start guide:
    1. Starting Caretta: press power button for 6 seconds.
    2. Charging Caretta via USB: open the USB-C silicone cover ("peel" away from the side) and charge via the provided USB-C cable through USB compatible wall charger, power bank or computer.
    3. For initial configuration after first device start, please follow the on-screen wizard.
    4. The operating system user interface is identical with a standard Android tablet or smart phone. Please refer to extensive online sources for generic guides.
    5. To use other than the pre-installed applications (which is encouraged), log into your Play Store account and download via the Play Store. You can log into your account either during the initial first-time configuration in the on-screen wizard, or subsequently in the pre-installed Play Store applications.
    6. It is highly recommended to update all pre-installed applications via the Play Store before first use.
  2. SIM and SD card
    1. Power off Caretta before inserting SIM or SD card.
    2. Use the provided Phillips screwdriver to remove SD and SIM slot cover (refer to graphics A9 and A10).
    3. Use the provided plastic tweezers to insert or remove the SIM and/or SD card. Do NOT use metal or sharp objects or your cards and/or the device slots can be damaged. Please mind correct cards orientation (check image below).
    4. The SIM and SD card must lock into position - press is in to hear a click.
    5. If you insert a SIM card while Caretta is running, you must restart Caretta before the SIM can be used and connected to the network.
    6. Re-assemble the SD and SIM slot cover. Make sure the silicone seal is correctly positioned on the hard cover or water-tightness of the device will be compromised. Re-torque the screws to full stop (but not beyond full stop!).
    7. Required card sizes: nano SIM and microSD.
    8. eSIM: navigate to the Settings - Network & internet - SIMs - Set up an eSIM - scan the QR code provided by your GSM operator by the device front camera.
  3. Use on a motorcycle (or other vehicle)
    1. Caretta must be mounted with the use of the provided or separately purchased Cradle.
    2. Caretta must only be powered via the provided Cradle. The Cradle is only compatible with 12V electrical systems.
    3. Please ensure your vehicle is able to provide at least 1,5A at 12V.
    4. USB must not be used for charging on vehicles, where Caretta is exposed to the elements and/or extensive vibrations or shocks (motorcycle, ATV and similar).
    5. Use only the provided power cable or separately sold adaptor cables for connecting to the vehicle electrical system.
    6. Power connection to the vehicle electrical system must always include a fuse. A fuse is integrated into the provided power cable. When attaching to the vehicle's auxiliary power outlet by a separately sold adaptor cable, please ensure that the outlet is protected by an adequate fuse on the vehicle side. Please refer to your vehicle user or service manual for details.
    7. Caretta is not designed to be mounted on a (motor) vehicle permanently. Please remove Caretta from the Cradle when not in use and store in a dry place with temperatures between 10 and 35 Celsius.
    8. Ensure the Caretta battery is charged to at least 60% before storing the device for extended periods of time.
    9. Ensure Caretta is not exposed to temperatures and water pressure outside the technical specifications set forth in this manual.
    10. Do NOT jet-wash Caretta or the Cradle. It may lead to permanent damage, which is not covered by defect warranty.
    11. Ensure the blade connectors (graphics B21) in the Cradle are free from debris before inserting Caretta or mating cable connectors (graphics B22 and B23).
  4. Mounting
    1. The Cradle can be mounted on a 12mm bar via the provided AMPS mounting base. Please refer to the separate manual for AMPS base installation instructions.
    2. The Cradle provides 4 mounting holes for M4 screws. The hole pattern complies with AMPS standard (WxL): 30x38mm
    3. The Cradle is designed to be compatible with most mounting solutions on the market, which employ M4 size screws and 30x38mm hole pattern.
    4. If mounted on a flat panel, the provided AMPS base (or one of it's sections) can be used as a spacer.
    5. Only the mounting holes (refer to graphics B17) can be used for mounting the Cradle to other surfaces. Do NOT use other protrusions in the Cradle's parts for mounting it.
  5. Inserting Caretta into and removing from the Cradle (graphics are coming soon)
    1. Before inserting Caretta into the Cradle, always check that the blade connectors (refer to graphics A15 and B21) are free from debris and foreign objects. Clean with a non-conductive brush as needed.
    2. Inserting Caretta into the Cradle is generally intuitive. Bottom part of the Caretta slides into the Cradle and is secured in place by firm push on the top part of the LCD, which engages the locking mechanism.
    3. Inserting step by step in landscape orientation:
      1. Place Caretta in the lower 1/3 of the Cradle under a slight angle. Caretta can lay on the top of the Cradle rim. Slide Caretta down so that the locating elements on the Caretta body and in the Cradle mate.
      2. Push at the top of the LCD firmly and the retention mechanism will engage. The retention mechanism is spring pre-loaded and is designed to fully engage by a simple push on the top of the screen.

      3. Check that the Ejection Lever (refer to the graphics B16) is fully engaged. In case of doubt, push on the LCD again and/or visually check that the Ejection Lever is fully engaged.
    4. Removing Caretta from the Cradle:
      1. Push on the Ejection Lever (refer to the graphics B16) from the right - Caretta will be ejected from the Cradle
      2. Please use both hands before becoming  familiar with the retention mechanism to prevent dropping Caretta to the ground.
    5. The lock in the Cradle is designed to only prevent theft of opportunity. The lock is independent from the retention mechanism. The retention mechanism will keep Caretta firmly in place and there is no danger of Caretta falling out (if it was inserted correctly in the first place) even if the Cradle is not locked.
  6. Modifications
    1. No modifications to Caretta and Cradle or the ports and cable assemblies are allowed. Any modifications will void the device warranty for defects.
    2. Do not disassemble Caretta or the Cradle. Disassembly will void the device warranty for defects.
    3. Use of other than the provided operating system is prohibited. Applying modified operating system (so called ROM flashing) will void the device warranty for defects.
  7. Regular maintenance
    1. Caretta and Cradle do not require regular maintenance beyond inspection of the Data and Power connectors (refer to the graphics: A-15 and B-21).
    2. Check the Data and Power connectors (refer to the graphics: A-15 and B-21) after each use, especially after the use in dusty and muddy environments. Remove any debris that may have collected inside the connectors by a non-conductive brush.
    3. If the Data and Power connectors show signs of oxidation (change in color), clean with electrical contacts cleaner spray and apply thin layer of lubricant for electrical contacts (e.g. lubricant for battery contacts).
