How to connect Carpe Iter remote controller

Modified on Mon, 6 Jul at 11:48 AM

Just like any other Bluetooth device, Carpe Iter handlebar remote controllers also need to be connected / bonded / paired with your smart device (Android cell phone or tablet). This also applies to Caretta and CI Pad.

Recommended procedure is to use NGH connection interface to bond your Carpe Iter controller to your Android powered device. The whole process normally takes 10 to 20 seconds and it will take much longer to read this manual than to actually connect the controller :-). Don't be intimidated by the lenght of this tutorial - it looks complex because we are describing every single step, but in reality it is really very simple. This is how:

1. Connect your controller to power (status LED on the controller will light up)

2. Enable Bluetooth on your Android device

3. Open NGH (make sure NGH is installed and updated to the latest version)

4. Go to NGH Settings - Controller and click "Pair New Controller"

5. NGH will start looking for available Carpe Iter controllers within range. It is usually not necessary, but if it is taking a while, press a controller button as suggested on the pop-up. This process usually takes only a few seconds:

6. Once Carpe controllers in range are found, you will be provided a list to select from. Select the controller you wish to connect. We are using the Adventure Control (AdvCtrl) as an example, but it works the same way for all Carpe Iter Bluetooth controller types:

7. Operating system Pairing dialog will pop-up. Click "Pair". Once the pairing is completed (almost instant), you will also receive a confirmation from NGH:

It might occasionally happen that the operating system will not offer the pairing dialog mentioned. In that case pair the controller manually in your Android device Bluetooth manager (the procedure is identical to pairing pair any other standard Bluetooth peripheral, such as Bluetooth earbuds).

8. Now your controller is paired / bonded with both NGH and your Android device and can be selected in NGH for use in the Controller overview. The list of paired controllers is under NGH Settings - Controller - Sellected controller (this is a clicable item):

9. Once selected, the controller will show in the menu as the selected controller and the icon in the NGH status bar will turn green:

After the controller is bonded with your Android device, it will automatically connect when it is powered and your Android device is in range with Bluetooth enabled. The connection is normally almost instant. If it doesn't connect instantly, click any of the controller buttons, which will give your Android device a nudge to speed it up.

Alternatively you can also pair your Carpe Iter remote controller through your Android device Bluetooth manager (the usual procedure for pairing Bluetooth peripherals such as Bluetooth earbuds). Once paired, your controller will be listed in the NGH configuration interface and you can select it for use there (step 8 above).

NGH supports bonding multiple Carpe Iter handlebar remotes. If you use your Android device on several motorcycles with Carpe Iter bluetooth remote controller installed on each of them, you can bond all of your controllers and switch between them in the NGH configuration interface (multiple controllers can be bonded, only one can be used at any one time to register inputs).

When previously bonded controller is connected to your device and selected for use in the Caretta configuration interface, the Bluetooth icon in the NGH status bar will turn from red to green.
