Bootloop: How to Stop and Prevent It

A bootloop (continuous restarting) is generally caused by one of three issues: a mechanically stuck power button, water ingress, or an interrupted system update.

Note on "False" Bootloops: Ensure you are not holding the power button down for too long during startup. Holding the button continuously will cause the device to cycle power. Press and hold the power button for approximately 1 to 2 seconds until the device starts, then release.

1. Stuck Power Button (Mechanical Cause)

The most common and easily resolved cause is a stuck or dirty button mechanism. Follow this cleaning procedure to resolve it:

  1. Remove the metal plate covering the buttons.
  2. Remove the silicone membrane covering the buttons.
  3. Inspect for water, mud, dust, or debris under the membrane. Wipe the area thoroughly clean and dry using a soft cloth or paper towel.
  4. Apply silicone oil generously to the switches. If contamination is present, wipe clean and repeat until the button mechanism is completely clean and moving freely.
  5. If using silicone spray, allow the propellant to evaporate completely (at least 10 minutes) before reinstalling the membrane.
  6. Reinstall the silicone membrane and metal cover plate securely.
Tip: This procedure can also be performed periodically as preventive maintenance to keep the buttons operating smoothly.

2. Water Ingress

If water has entered the CI Pad, it can cause internal short-circuits resulting in a bootloop:

  1. Open all protective port covers and flaps.
  2. Leave the device in a warm, dry location to allow internal moisture to evaporate.
  3. You can assist the drying process by gently blowing air into one of the open ports using a hair dryer on a low heat/cool setting.
Warning: Do not plug in or charge the CI Pad if you suspect internal water damage.

3. Software Issues & Technical Support

Bootloops can also occur if the device loses power or runs out of battery during a system update. If your device continues to bootloop after checking the power button and ensuring the unit is dry, please contact Carpe Iter customer support to arrange an inspection and repair.
