Under normal conditions, no. The entire Carpe Iter setup, including the controller, draws approximately 1 A at 12 V (~12 W). In standby/idle mode, the power supply draws less than 5 µA (microamps), which is significantly lower than typical motorcycle parasitic draw.
If your motorcycle battery drains during rides, the issue is typically caused by one of the following:
- Faulty or underperforming alternator/stator: Unable to provide sufficient charging current under load.
- Inadequate or degraded battery: Reduced capacity, aging cells, or unsuitable battery type.
- Excessive total accessory load: The combined power consumption of connected accessories (heated grips/gear, auxiliary lights, additional chargers) exceeding the alternator's net output.
Calculate the total power draw of all connected electrical accessories and compare it against the maximum charging output of your motorcycle's electrical system at operational RPM.
Note: While removing the tablet from the powered holder when parked for extended periods is recommended, doing so will not prevent battery drain that occurs while riding. Discharge during operation indicates an issue with the motorcycle's charging system or overall electrical load, rather than the Carpe Iter device or holder.
