Can the Carpe Iter tablet drain my motorcycle battery while riding?

Modified on Mon, 2 Jun at 10:48 AM

Under normal conditions, no. The entire Carpe Iter setup, including the controller, draws approximately 1 A at 12 V (i.e. 12 W).
When idle, the power supply draws less than 5 microamps, which is significantly less than typical motorcycle electronics. If your battery drains during long rides, the issue is almost certainly caused by one of the following:

  • A faulty or underperforming alternator,

  • An inadequate or incompatible battery (e.g. an older or small-capacity gel battery),

  • Excessive total power consumption from all connected accessories – such as auxiliary lights, heated grips, chargers, etc.

You should calculate the total power draw from everything connected to your bike, and compare it to what your alternator can reliably supply.

Note: While removing the tablet from the holder overnight is recommended, it won’t solve battery drain that occurs while riding. In such cases, the problem is not the tablet or the holder, but the electrical system of the motorcycle.
